Resurrecting an old thread here. Didn't realize it was this old, but it's going on 2 years since I put this sucker on hold. This was originally for a 29g reef I had setup a while back but I have since taken it down completely. Fast forward to today I have a 40 breeder sitting in my spare bedroom waiting for water. So I dug out the old frame and beefed it up. This is super over kill, but I'd rather have it stronger than needed than have a tank disaster. My original plan was to have a stand big enough for a 40 breeder so this works out perfectly.

I'm planning on using plywood for the top, bottom and sides and last night I went to Menards/Lowes and found some really nice 1/4 inch red oak veneer. I plan to face the stand with the veneer to make it look nice but I'm looking for feedback on how to attach it? Just glue? Maybe some finish staples on edges so I can cover up with trim?

I'm also wondering about doors and how to go about making them...

Got some progress anyway. Hopefully this thing turns out half way decent.

Nice!

Heck, you could paint it as-is and it would look better than something like a metal stand.

I really like the stained wood look though. Painting would save me a lot of hassle, but I like the grain in the oak boards and how much it can be brought out with some nice stain.

And with the amount of equipment that I plan on having in the sump... I'm going to need doors or my son will be going to town in there, lol.

Yep.... that's a fact..... says the grandpa whose granddaughter just flooded the house.

Sturdy stand there. If you don't place a tank on it you can also use it as a car lift.

Rush,
Check out Home Depot or the like, their kitchen/bathroom cabinet doors may be of interest.

If your stand and tank are the same width you can skip the plywood top and just put your 1/2" foam down. You could google diy cabinet doors

Got some more work done this weekend. Cut the top and bottom out of 3/4 inch plywood. It's starting to look like something. :)

Cut the skin to fit. I'll glue it down and cut out sections for the doors next.

Still need to poly the inside.
