I've put some thought into the possiblity of purchasing another tank (mabey a 29 gallon) and trying to breed feeders for my O. Wondering if anyone here has successfully done this, and if so what size tank, equipment, and fish did you breed? I've heard guppies & molly's are easy to breed, but havn't heard about goldfish (Breed in outside ponds I think). Your thoughts?

Goldfish are not easily spawned, you would need lots of space (about 10 10g tanks, just for the fry Image) and there is lots of techniques you'd have to know before you could think of spawning them.

I would try to spawn guppes, swordtails or mollies as feeders, as they grow pretty fast, and spawn very often.

I have a pair of apple snails. I am going to try to breed them for my puffers. I have the snails in w/ my oscars right now. i think i might move them into a lil tank i have but it doesent have a filter with it. do you think snails would need a filter?

I have a 20g long under my O tank. In it I keep around 5 adult female mollies, 1 or 2 males. So far the females breeding times have been spread out, so I get around 100 molly fry every week or so (not an exact point in which they breed). Mollies are really easy to breed, most often when buying adult females from a lfs, you'll get them when they're already pregnant. My first female I bought alone and the next day I was surprised by about 15 baby mollies swimming around. Be sure to buy a breeder net if you do mollies though, they're known to eat their offspring. With one female, if she's able to breed, you'll get a clutch of around 15-40 molly fry every 3 weeks. Besides that, they're really hardy fish, very easy to take care of.

Guppies have been the easiest in my experiance. Starting with two fancy tailed guppies, in 6 months I had a 10 gal. and a 15 gal. chalk full! Image

Guppies+water=lots of guppies
all you need are one or two 10 gallons tanks, 2 powerheads with sponges and a hand full of java moss. In a couple of months I had a finely tuned guppy breeding machine to feed my oscar. But one problem my oscar doesn't like guppies, he'll only eat goldfish (go figure). Now I trade guppies for supplies at the local fish store.
