Pacu Kitten Goes Wakesurfing

Postby pacu mom » Sun Feb 05, 2012 9:14 pm

There were some comments made about my cat. Here's some video of Farah Francesca, AKA, Pacu Kitten in action.

Take One (cameraman did not realize the video was on, so there's a lot of upholstry in this one. The commentary is pretty good, though)

Take Two - you always get a little wet when you wakesurf

Take Three - Farah hangs ten, then jumps ship

Farah doesn't like the water, but she isn't afraid of the water. On the lake it can get 114+ degrees, and she gets overheated. We put her in the water to cool off. She swims back to the boat. She doesn't like being on a board and will get off the board into the water to swim back to the boat. Her hair shafts are hollow tubes, giving her that etheral look, but also keep her floating really high in the water (even without her life vest)

With a "lion" cut, she swims lower in the water. With her hair shaved off, she doesn't get as hot, so doesn't need much cooling off. I think she only swam twice last summer. She hates getting her hair combed, and bites and scratches and growls and hisses, so we've been keeping her coat short. Unfortnately, it requires general anesthesia at the vets office just to cut her hair off.

Really Beautiful cat! and it looks unique! :) just be aware that a pet can die under general anesthesia, really dangerous, specially Ketamine.. i would avoid it

You are quite correct. She gets Isoflurane just to be examined (x-rays, ultrasounds, etc.) She was recently brutalized by a vet (he was filling in while her regular vet was on vacation). Actually, she saw four different vets in nine days and had Isoflurance on two of those visits. Not only am I not able to comb her long hair, but she develops serious hairball problems when she is not shaved. She was brutalized by a groomer who ripped her hair out, leaving large areas of pink skin...since then she will not tolerate being restrained to comb her. It's really sad, because she is a cat with a joyful, exuberant spirit.

Now tell the truth Pacu Mom. When she jumped from the board to the boat it left a brown stain in your drawers.

Would have scared the bejesus out of me anyway.

That was funny.
When the kitty disappeared for a fraction of a second, I thought she missed!

I was driving the boat and stopped to pick up my husband. BTW, Farah is retired from boarding. She was diagnosed with advanced kidney disease (polycystic kidneys) in December.

The scariest water related thing that ever happened was when we were on a houseboat. We were standing on the roof, when my husband suddenly jumped off into the water. He had looked down and saw Farah swimming toward our boat which was tied to the houseboat. She apparently went down the slide into the water (either put on the slide by a naughty boy, or perhaps she was chasing a fly and got on the slide) She swam around the houseboat to our boat (the only thing she recognized, and climbed up on the propeller housing. She had at least a 4' drop into the water. I'm sure glad my husband saw her swimming.

Sorry to hear about Pacu Kitty's ailment. I lost my prior Sheltie (Sassie) to Kidney disease.

On an almost related note, I almost lost my favorite cat (Batman... aka Buddy Man). I had not noticed anything wrong with him until the night before last. Just been too darn busy to notice. Turns out he had urinary track blockage. His bladder was the size of a baseball. Underwent surgery yesterday to clear the blockage and he currently has a catheter inserted. He's not a happy camper at the moment. He's still not walking but at least he is drinking well and took a small interest in food. I've covered the floor of my master bathroom with newspaper and piddle pads as he is dripping blood and urine on a near constant bases from the catheter but it's getting better as the day goes on.

Sorry to pipe into such a happy thread with such a downer. :(
