Postby casper » Sun Feb 24, 2013 4:22 am

i have a 150 gallon deep tank. 48x24x30. i have 2 marinland 350 bio wheel filters hob. 2 oscars and 1 violet goby. a 300 wat heater and a 200 wat heater. now i want to get a canister filter to go with all that. the fx5 and the 2 marinland are the same price but witch would be best for my oscars.

look at it this way, canister filters should turn over 4 x the tanks volume per hour and HOB about 10x the tank volume per hour.

canisters - 4 x 150 = 600gph
HOB - 10 x 150 = 1500gph

never used FX5 or marineland canisters, but i will not be the only one to tell you this, I would get 2 canisters as opposed to one big mama canister, so 2 marineland c360 in conjunction with your hob filters, you should be golden. :lthumb:

2 canisters have there advantages, if one breaks down at least you have a spare to keep the tank running. :)

Cheers

For me, this is a no brainer. A pair of Marineland C-360s over an FX5 any day. I would much, much, much, much, very much, prefer the pair of C-360s. Please review my posts in this thread for the reasons.

I have an FX5 that came with my tank, but if I was buying filters I'd go for the 2 C-360s given your original choices.
That said, I agree with WL and would take an Eheim 2217 over a C-360.
C-360s are good filters, too many respected members have them and are happy with them to say otherwise, although I did have one once and it leaked.
I traded it for my 2217.

Love my pair of C360's. I don't know if I'll ever own another brand of canister. High quailty, high efficiency.
