Re: SeaChem Prime Review
Prime removes chlorine and chloramine and detoxifies ammonia and nitrite, stimulates natural slime coat & also detoxifies any heavy metals. Nuff said. Very economical, affordable & available. Amust have for the serious hobbyist. "T"

Re: SeaChem Prime Review
I only bought this product after reading kmuda,s review of it, which seems to make sense to me...
like was mentioned in his review I have never noticed any drop in nitrate....that will have to be achieved thru water changes.

Re: SeaChem Prime Review
I'll give you that Prime is effective and economical but I hate the fact it's a slime coat enhancer. That is a total turn off for me. I was and always probably will be an Amquel guy.

Re: SeaChem Prime Review
OHern, the correct term would be slime coat stimulator. I agree 100% that any product that contains an amine based polymer as a "slime coat enhancer" should be ruled out for use as these can coat a fish's gills and reduce the effectiveness of our biomedia. Prime does not contain a "slime coat enhancer" (i.e. an amine based polymer). Basically the "claim" is marketing for the lesser informed. Their "slime coat stimulant" is nothing more than a unintended side effect of the salts they use to detoxify chlorine. A "side effect" that just about any dechlorinator will have.
I read the MDS on every product I use and the only chemical listed in the MDS for Prime is a "Proprietary aqueous solution of complexed hydrosulfite salts." If there was an amine based polymer or other actual "slime coat enhancer" in the product, it would be listed here, by law.

Re: SeaChem Prime Review
I've used Prime for quite some years. I got into fishkeeping initially with salt water, and the formula available then (1980s) was even more concentrated than it is now. and I like it. I still use it. Using a bit more than needed doesn't hurt anything, and I've never lost a fish during a water change or adapting a new fish to a tank.

Re: SeaChem Prime Review
I absolutely love this product. I have used quite a few other products for removing chlorine and this stuff is hands down the best Ive used. I bought a 2gallon bottle since i have 5 tanks I do 50% waterchanges on. It goes along ways since its concentrated. I highly recomend it to anyone.
