Replacement Suction Cups

Postby Kmuda » Sat Sep 10, 2011 9:05 pm

My recommendation for a replacement suction cups can be found here:

If you have other recommendations, or experiences with the Zoo Med Replacment Turtle Dock Suction Cups, please reply to this thread.

As I state in the review, I use these extensively, keeping many on hand. Their low cost practically eliminates the frustration factor associated with suction cups that don't suck (well.... they do suck, just not in the right way). :lthumb:

Article has been updated to detail how to get through some difficulties in using these cups with equipment they are not designed for.

I prefer the really deep black rubber cups over clear shallow ones that get hard over time. That's all I can think to add.

Goldburg, I've never found a suction cup that did not get hard over time. That's how I wound up with these, trying to find something inexpensive enough that I could just replace them frequently. I don't find that these last any shorter a time than do the Eheim Cups I was was using previously... and the Eheims cost about 6x more.

If you happen to come across a brand that does better, be sure to let us know.

I've found that sometimes, with the black ones, the hard mineral layer can be scraped off with a finger nail and become usable again. I did this with my Stealths for many years until ultimately they became useless. I had a turtle dock for my turtle and found those cups became useless very fast. The very deep black suction cups seem to last the longest, none of mine have failed so far. Let's say 2-3 years experience on those. The trouble is replacements. The deep black ones have never failed me but I do not know where to buy them by themselves. Mine came with Rio Filters or Aqueon Pro heaters. Maybe Aqueon is the right source.
