I just hooked my second Magnum HOT 250. This one is for the Pleco tank which is too low to the floor for a classic canister, so I got another Magnum HOT 250.

Upon reciept, checked the box, and yep.... still Made in the USA. :lthumb:

They also now include an on/off button, which is something my old one does not have.

Comparing the old one to the new one (understanding that my old one, which is still in use, has been running for the better part of 20 years) and, aside from the on/off switch, there are no differences. Still being made with a solid high quality plastic here in the good ole USA.

I love these little filters and would prefer them over any HOB.

I have an AquaClear 200, which is the cheaper Walmart version of the same filter.
It does 200 gph as opposed to the 250, but is a great little filter that gives more bang for the buck IMO than any HOB I've had.
I fill it with Hagen bio rings.
I just ordered a new Magnum HOT 250 Pro, which is a standard HOT 250 with a spraybar-bio wheel attachment.

While I do not have the extra bio-wheel add on I do have two of the standard Hot Mag 250s and can't speak highly enough of them. I always keep one on my main tank to keep it established/cycled in the unfortunate case of needing to setup a QT or Med tank. They are easy to use, setup and transport. I have had mine for 3+ years now with no complains.

After some tinkering, I got the bio wheel attachment going.
The attachment includes an alternate outlet from the filter, this one has a divider, one side feeds the same type of diffuser, the other side feeds a spray bar that drives the bio wheel. You can rotate the spray bar which gives a degree of control over how fast the wheel turns (fast or faster ;) ).
On the minus side, it more than doubles the space requirements on the back if the tank.
On the plus side, a bio wheel is always a good addition.
:D
