Convict/Firemouth Hybrid

Postby WickedLESTOR » Tue Sep 26, 2006 6:43 pm

employee at the LFS told me this was a cross between a firemouth and a convict.

I am not sure but its a feisty little fellow. Have him in a 30 gal with a convict. They seem to get along ok.

Could anyone clarify if this is a true hybrid.

The shape is like a Meeky juvenile.,and the mouth is sort of like a convict..I don't know..you may have to wait until it gets bigger.

Looks like an ordinary juvenile con to me. I don't see any FM characteristics at this stage. Anything's possible though, you'll know in a few weeks if it starts to look different than your con. Keep us posted!

No way its got a FM head and mouth

It really could be a FH/Con but you would need it to grow a bit before you can be sure.

I see the traits of both Firemouth and Con in that little fish. It is an interesting combination, reminds me of a Geophagus in a way.

I have it in with a convict and sometimes I can not tell which is which from a distance. Close up it looks more like a firemouth.

It is aggressive with the convict, but I also have a tiger barb in there, which he does not bother at all. But the tiger barb will be going to a ten gallon tank soon with his buddies.

Its aggression seems to be more territorial than anything, alot of chasing and quick nips to the cons tail. But all in all they get along for the most part. :-)

They are all fairly small right now. 1.5"-2"

I am trying to convince the wife to let me set up and old 55 gal tank for them. ................I got a solid maybe. :-)

finally got all 3 together, it is amazing what a little food will do. Crappy pic but you can see differences in the con and the supposed FM/Con
