bump on my oscar's lip

Postby mike68 » Sat Jul 06, 2002 8:54 pm

My O has a bump on his lower lip looks sorta like a pimple and his upper and lower lip don't meet together just right. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="/frown.gif" /> Has anyone else seen antthing like this before he is about four inches long. his appetite is excellent and he seems very happy. this just has me a little concerned.

thanks,

mike

bump on my oscar's lip

Yep, got the same thing here. Mine has had it for months. Do you have any other fish in the tank? My theory is that it's from jaw locking. My 2 O's were going through a stage where they fought all the time, and it showed up. The bottom jaw looked like it came to more of a V shape than before. But the jaw eventually went back to normal shape and the "pimple" went down. It's still there, but not as large. It may be a scar, but it doesn't effect him/her in any way now.

Glad to hear yours is okay. i have a pair of convicts with him and the male thinks he is the king of the tank. i have seen him and "bubba" (thats what we call him since his lip looks funny) locking lips together when i first put him in. They don't seem to do it much now. the convict found out that Bubba will fight back so he seems to have left him alone.

i see you are from Va. are you near roanoke?

My Albino oscar has the same bump on his lower lip and has had it since he reached the size of about 3". i have never noticed my 2 oscars jaw locking. But they may have while i was asleep they never fight as far as i know. maybe a mark from being in captivity. My oscars are healthy and happy

bump on my oscar's lip

Postby bountyhunter » Sun Jul 07, 2002 6:33 pm

My Tiger had one on his lower lip. It was huge. It was from him rubbing his chin on the glass. It was sort of a callous.(spl?) It's gone now. It went away shortly after he stopped pacing up and down in his tank. I think he did it because it was new. The tank I mean. Later.

Mine looks like its solid also. there doesn't appear to be any puss or anything like that going on. it actually looks a little smaller than it was.

thanks for the help,

mike
