Do oscars play?

Postby Binglethort » Sun Feb 10, 2002 5:37 pm

My dad told me to buy some oscars if I wanted fish and I like my red oscar, but my tiger oscar is just mean. When I feed him he just lays on the bottom if I am around but my RED oscar is great, he goes to the top of the tank and will just start at you, like he wants food but if you just sit there, he looks at you like he wants to play or something. If anyone wants a tiger oscar, you can have him. On my other post they said not give give him back to a LFS cause they don't take care of them. I want my red oscar but not my tiger oscar. I live in Georgia.

Do oscars play?

Postby Bubbles » Sun Feb 10, 2002 6:15 pm

LOL hi Bing, it's me again.

Yes, almost all oscars do have a lot of 'personality' to them and a few traits that endear them to to their owners. Some people have gotten their oscars used to being 'touched' Or 'petted' even.
My oscars recognize me and my voice, but that's about it. I haven't taught them any tricks yet. Tiggy likes swimming sideways near the tank wall when he sees me and will stare at me for hours if I'm in the same room.

As for your Tiger Oscar, I live in the Philippines, so I won't be able to take him.
( I also don't have the tankspace yet )

Well, I call them by name during feeding time...

heehee okay, maybe it's just the fact that they see me near the tank that brings them coming to me. But it doesn't hurt to think that they recognize my voice, does it?

How long have you had these fish?

Their behaviour can change a lot during their first few weeks even months in the tank. Your tiger may become more friendly when it gets comfortable with you.

Plus it is possible the Red is totally dominant and the tiger is only being submissive to avoid being attacked.

my fish know my voice also, I talk to them all the time, lol. They like to dance around when I walk over to the tank to feed them. I can pick up their food can and shake it and they seem to dance even more, like little puppies waiting to be fed, it is so funny. Oscars develope some of the coolest personalities.

Hey, Binglethort! I live in Alpharetta as well. How big is your tiger oscar? I will gladly take the tiger off of your hands depending on its size. I currently have 2 oscars in a 125gl tank. I've been looking to add a red oscar, but if your tiger needs a home, then I will help you out.

Email me if you'd like at [email protected] or AIM quattroatl.

Thanks.
