My O jumped out of the tank last night.
My wife found him on the floor in front of the bathroom door.
Not sure how long it had been, I had seen him in the tank 20 minutes earlier.
I thought he was done as there was no movement, but when I got a net and flipped him into it, he started flopping around.
He seemed OK after being returned to the tank.
I added salt to the tank and will see how he's doing after work.

During summer, I often leave the lid open so the ceiling fan can help cool the tank, otherwise it goes over 82 deg.

That won't be happening anymore...

Lucky you found him. I don't know it for cichlids especially big cichlids but most big fish like carps, catfish as example can be out of the water for some time as long they stay moist.

Is he damaged or bruised? If he seems to swim again a skin infection or fungus would be the worst case.
We need to stop talking about the people as if they were the crown of creation.

Sounds like a lucky save hate to have come out in the morning to find a dead Oscar.
With temperature, I have my tank set at about 80f, but my oscars spend alot of their time hovering directly above my jager heater. So I'm not really sure what is too warm for them. Anyhow as you say keeping lids on will stop this from happening again.

OUch...... lost my previous Oscar that way. Even though we got to him almost immediately, that bacterial pitting thing started in and I could never get him recovered.

Good luck with the fish. My personal concern would be swim bladder damage from the fall, then slime coat damage. No issues a couple days in and I would be confident on being ok. As for temps, all my tanks go to the mid-high 80's for a bit of our summer humid spell. Never a concern, and that goes for my CA as well. My year round average on Oscar tanks is around 82 anyways.

The O seems fine so far.
No marks anywhere I can see, swimming around normally.
As mentioned, I'm worried about internal organ damage/bruising due to the approx 5 ft drop from the top of the tank to the hard floor.
I opened the tank as if I was going to feed and the O showed some interest.
I fed them just prior to the O jumping out, so tonight I'll see if he'll eat.

Home after work and a closer inspection shows slight damage to his right pectoral fin.
Just some torn tissue between rays, no broken rays.
That's it.
O seems normal otherwise, he wants to eat me because I'm wearing a shirt with stripes.
;)
Seriously, it took me a while to figure out why he gets super aggressive at times, to the point of hitting the glass while trying to attack me.
Stripes of any type set him off.

Doesn't matter.
I have some short sleeve casual business type shirts with both horizontal and vertical pinstripe patterns as well as some t shirts with horizontal stripes.
Either set him off.
Maybe he just hates me...
