I have my 75 gallon aquarium set up with native fish to my home state of Michigan. I have 6 wild caught blue gills that I got out of my pond. I thought I would try keeping natives. I've had good luck with them so far. They are small right now none of them are bigger than 3/4's of an inch. They adapted well to aquarium life. I feed them tetra cichlid mini granules. They act alot like cichlids in my opinion. I'm probably not going be able to keep all of them once they get a little bigger and start showing color I'll decide which 2 I want to keep. I'm going to try for a pair and see if they will breed. Should be pretty interesting.

Native are awesome. One of our Moderators who has not stopped by in a while was major into Natives. In the articles section you can find one of his articles comparing sunfish to cichlids. I believe he has other articles on natives there.

I figured I would try some natives because I always wanted to do a native tank. I had a jack dempsey and a large firemouth in the 75 gallon unfortunately my heater malfunctioned and the tank got 110 degrees and killed my fish so I had an empty tank and decided it's time to do the native tank. No heat required since their cold water fish I'll save a little on electricity too.

I decided to let the bluegills go back in the pond. I really don't have time to take care of multiple tanks. I took the 75 down and put it in storage. I also have a 125 gallon with an albino Honduran red point. I kept one bluegill and put it with the red point. I've sold alot of my aquariums. I used to have 9 aquariums set up a one time. I'm down to 3 i kept my 20 gallon, my 75 gallon and the nicer of my 125 gallon tanks. I had a 150 gallon, 2 125 gallon tanks, a 90 gallon, a 55 gallon, a 40 breeder, a 40 stretch hexagon, a 29 gallon and 2 10 gallon tanks.
