What is the best way to quiet noisy impellers. I have 2 aquaclear 110 filters and every time I clean my filters the impellers make a lot of noise. I don't know if maybe I cleaned the impeller wells out too much. Anyways I have a 125 gallon aquarium with 2 aquaclear 110 filters and a Marineland c360 canister filter. Right now i only have one fish. I have a female albino Honduran red point she's about 3 years old she used to have 3 firemouths and six Buenos aires tetras as tank mates but she killed all of her tank mates. I think she's going to have to be the lone cichlid in the tank. I'm going to restock my tank I'll probably get about 6 more Buenos aires tetras and possibly some kind of catfish. I want to do a central American community tank. What are your suggestions on quieting noisy filter impellers. Thanks. I'm new to this forum. Hello.

You can try to lube the impeller shaft and rubber bushings with some silicone grease / plumber's grease to see if that helps. Or sometimes the plastic parts get somewhat misaligned.

It's funny you mention this with the AC110. I never have a noise issue like this with my 110s but my AC70s are an absolute pain with impeller clatter at times no matter what I do. Usually just turning them off/on/off/on stops the clicking.

I've run an AC110 and an AQC70.
Even after removing the covers, they both sounded like tractors IMO.
My solution was to replace them with an Eheim.

Greasing with vaseline maybe helps also look if the Impeller wings maybe scratch on something or get contact with something.

Aggressive honduran red points? I don't know i breeded hundreds of them to semi adulthood but they are for me one of the most humble Amatitlania. They go well with Swordtails and Platys. Also Central americans

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I don't use vaseline for my aquarium because it eats rubber parts I use 100% silicone plumbers grease. I coated the impellers in plumbers grease and they are a lot quieter now. I don't think my fish is pure Honduran red point she may have some convict in her. She is more aggressive than a normal Honduran red point.

I don't even put the covers on any of my AC's (110, 70, 50 or 20) because they end up rattling so much.

HOBs are a pain with this in general. I bought the "new" Seachem Tidal 110 a year or so ago to see how it compares. There's no impeller clicking or lid rattle with it, but it still makes a whirring noise that's fairly loud if you're used to silent canisters or whatnot.

I find I have to put a couple of rocks on top just to keep the lid from rattling, then I figured out that the lid rattles only if it's not sitting on the filter correctly. weird because the rattling noise stopped after I realigned the lid.
