I have someone coming over today and is going to buy three males

He was here yesterday and wanted to see if I was going to sell my mature females. and wanted the lwanda on top of that. He's got nerve to ask a third time in a text message after I told him the Lwanda was not for sale. The Lwanda is not an aggressive male and is working out pretty well in the main tank.

65 gallon
2 yellow tail aceis
1 yellow top finned Lawanda
2 male cobues, 1 cobue fry
6 female cobue peacocks
2 Synodontis lucipinnis
1 electric yellow

5.5 Gallon
red finned, blue and white marbled Delta tail betta

30 gallon
3 males, 4 females

I just sold the majority of the fish to a breeder, I'm down to four females and three males. The bioload on the tank has just decreased dramatically and will be a little easier to maintain until they're sold.

Two of the males were beaten up, he didn't take them and wanted my lwanada. That's two people that wanted my fish, which makes me want to keep him even more

I heard he's a bit of a rare find.

Are selling all of your stock? Or just lightening the load?

I have kept six fry for the main tank, two are definitely males in the main tank. One of the two is starting to color up quite a bit.

I do have plans for the main tank, I was thinking of adding in two more males of different species of peacocks. I would love to get my hands on a eureka red ottoman. talk about outstanding color.

and maybe a sunshine or a blue neon, or maybe a german red.

can't go forward to a salt water tank until the rest of the fry are sold ;)

The guy panicked a little when he saw the Lwanada and was beginning to think the fry were hybrids :roflmao: I haven't had the lwanda long enough to be the father.

I had to reassure him the cobues were purebreds

Very cool. It's always a bit chaotic moving fry around. Although I don't know if I'd refer to those as fry... looks like the males coming into color are probably sexually mature? Not an African guy so I dunno. Cool to be able to sell some of your stock though. Always rewarding. :)

They are coming into being sexually mature when they color up, but sometimes not all males will color up until the main dominants are gone.

The males that are less dominant don't color up at all and will get sold off as females by mistake. Then a few weeks later, surprise it's a boy.

so i grew all the african fry to about 1.5 inches and gave them all to a local pet store to free up a tank
now i see another selling same T 4 inches for $20 each
im not in this for profit..but DAMN.... i might set up my open tanks next time and sell them instead of giving them.

It's too much work for me. I had trouble giving them to the pet store. Everytime I asked they said they didn't have any room.

Oh well.

One of the two males in the main tank has really started to color up in the last few days. I'm hoping he'll reach that outstanding blue I'm hoping he'll be true too :D

The other male is starting to show more color as well and is starting his little mating dance. Mom's not too impressed :wtf:

That's the problem I run into as well. Even if you have high quality stock, the most of their income comes from the smaller disposable fish ie: tetras and fancy guppies. I think there are 5 tanks dedicated to cichlids in my LFS. The rest (40-50?) are dedicated to gold fish, tetras and other community type fish that typically have short life spans. It is what it is, but yea it's frustrating having a fish like my last carpintis - H. carpintis sp 'chairel' F2. "Sorry we don't have room for a fish that size". I understand. The market up here anyway is just not accommodating to large cichlids.
