Save the fry and raise some females. For a future pair i also would recommend to let him choose himself an female. Naturaly bound pairs are often way more harmonic as random constelations.
I also feared this male dominant behavior with my A. trimaculatus but while it is an self bonded F1 pair out of an community setup they are for Amphilophus very harmonic.
We need to stop talking about the people as if they were the crown of creation.

I'm probably not going to look for another female, no. I'll just raise the fry and see what happens from there. Might sell them all, might keep one or two. We'll have to see how it all goes.

That's a handsome boy. Sucks about the female though. I hate finding jumpers.

Thanks. While after the female jumped, my daughter lost the remote to the light on the tank. So it's literally been about six months since I've been able to turn on the light to see this guy. The tank sits in front of a west facing window so it has plenty of light. But by the time I get home it's usually dark enough where I don't get to see him very well. I ordered a replacement remote on Amazon. He's grown considerably.

So.. what's your opinion? A good solo tank species? How does it compare to an Oscar?

Sorry, must have missed this post. He's alone in a 75g.
